The Hamburg Sizzler

In 1952, while living in Troy, New York, Peg’s husband, Burt, invented a metal disc, originally designed to prevent small children from accidentally opening a car’s back door. An entrepreneur at heart, he reimagined it as a tool for cooking hamburgers in the oven and named it the Hamburg Sizzler.

Burt enticed Peg to sell the “Hamburg Sizzler” in exchange for a trip to New York City. Much to his surprise, she returned home with a purchase order for 10,000 units to be sold at Macy’s department stores.
